GARY JAMES MCQUEEN
CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Gary James McQueen: A Visionary Artist
Formerly a fashion designer and photographer, Gary James McQueen worked at Alexander McQueen as head of Menwear textiles, alongside his uncle, the late, great British fashion designer and couturier Lee Alexander McQueen. As a teenager, Gary would escape from his turbulent homelife by spending time with Lee, watching horror films and sketching ideas. This period heavily influenced Gary’s penchant for melancholic romance, seen throughout the signature motifs of his art – ornate skulls, delicate insects and creeping flora.
Having mastered his craft over decades, Gary meticulously selects the most fitting techniques to realize his creative vision. Through his captivating lenticular works, he uses his unique understanding of artistic design principles to build rich visual narratives.
Gary James McQueen's art has garnered critical acclaim, with exhibitions in prominent galleries on both sides of the Atlantic, including London's V&A and New York's Met Museum. His innovative approach to art and design has generated significant media coverage, with features in The Sunday Times, CBS, The Observer, Forbes, Sky Arts, Art Plugged and Coveteur.
